Here are some tips on choosing the best credit card for you while in the SCRA and the military.

In Support Of Our Service Members, Morris County Vows To Commit

The SCRA limits the interest that eligible active duty service members can be charged on accumulated credit card debt.

There is one exception - a creditor can ask a court to determine whether your ability to pay higher interest is not significantly affected by military service. But if they're not covered by this exception, eligible active duty members only have to pay 6 percent interest on credit card debt they had before they started military service. To learn more about the Service Member Civil Relief Act, visit the SCRA website.

If you travel frequently, we recommend choosing a card that offers travel benefits, such as credit on airline or hotel purchases. If you're working to lower a balance on a high-interest card, you may want to consider a credit card with an introductory APR offer on balance transfers. You can even maximize your basic spending with certain cards that earn you cash back.

Even if you're not looking for a new card, check with your current credit card issuers to see if they offer special benefits to service members. Some credit card companies go even further, offering lower rates and even waiving annual fees for eligible active duty members.
